Artist Statement

My canvases offer a timeless, limitless world of solitude, of intriguing vistas and mysterious landscapes. Each painting captures a moment in time where reality is infused with a sense of magic. Influenced by Balthus and D’Hauterives my paintings are imbued with the feeling of intrigue, always asking the question, “what is just beyond the veil?” Art making is the act of creating, which reveals truths about oneself. I am often inspired by the poet William Blake who wrote, “I must create a system of my own or be enslaved by another man’s” Thus, I paint, it defines who I am as a person, constantly looking for the freedom to express to go beyond what is known, into dimensions and places where dreams are made.

Artist Bio

As far back as G. C. De Pietro can recall, creativity has been her healer, her solace, her friend and her joy. Born prematurely and later diagnosed with a life-threatening childhood disease, De Pietro spent much of her early youth in hospitals. After surviving several near-death experiences, she knew she would commit her life to the metaphysical world through writing and painting. She attended New York’s School of Visual Arts for her undergraduate degree, Paris American Academy for international studies and the College of New Rochelle for Graduate school, where she received a Master’ Degree in Science in 2005.

De Pietro painted and showed her work extensively through the United States, Canada and Europe in galleries and museums. She soon realized the best way to connect with her inner core was through the creative process. During her illness as a child, she was introduced to the child life center at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. It was there that she found her inspiration and the will to get better. Delving into making art was all she wanted to do. She started painting at an early age and know now that the many hours lying in a hospital bed taught her the art of observation. You will see in her figurative work and her Mediterranean series that she can take rather banal objects and transform them into something majestic. She continues to work and be inspired by an inner knowledge of what some call the spirit of the eternal that guides her.
